23 – Letter From a Friend

December 15, 2011

Like I already mentioned, I have met some incredible people here and made fantastic friends. One of my really good friend left yesterday and she left me this little note that I found so beautiful I felt like I needed to share it; maybe it will inspire more people that way.

“Christina,
I will miss you. You have the most beautiful heart and soul, and you’ve taught me a lot about who I am and who I want to be. You are kind, generous, lively and bubbly, and I hope you love the person that you are – you should do.
Take good care of yourself, look after that heart of yours – don’t be afraid to give it away, but don’t let tough times break or harden it either. It’s so easy to put up barriers and distance yourself from people when you’ve been hurt but you get more from life when you love and trust easily and freely. I have just relearned this myself.
I wish you all the best and I hope to see you again, whether it be in Australia or some other random meeting place somewhere in the world.”

Other than that, we all love the shop. They told us this morning that they would teach us how to drive the boat, and 5 minutes later here was Sara at the wheel, driving the dive boat across the bay with the biggest grin on her face! Oh these next 3 months are going to be fun! We are now on 2 dives a day, but we still got our afternoon off! As part of our Divemaster training, we were asked to map a dive site called Twin Barges, which are 2 wrecks at between 15-25meters deep. The four of us failed miserably at mapping the site, and Marcus, one of the skippers and divemasters, laughed at our face for a good 5 minutes. They left us by ourselves at the shop again, and here is what happens:

Late afternoon we all met up with the other DM and Grace, the only GVI staff member who is still in the country, and we watched the sunset on the beach. Every Wednesday there is also a night market right along the beach so we got to try some creole food and to stroll around the stands. There was some creole bands playing music as well. On the 2nd photo you  can see the three other girls I live with : Sara, Nicole and Emily.

Our next door neighbor brought us yesterday a tiny kitten that she found on the road! It’s the tiniest kitten on Earth; it fits in the palm of my hand. We named her Yoda, and she has been with us thus far. We were not expecting her to be still there in the morning, but there she was in her little box the next morning. She’s still a little clumsy but she’s the cutest little thing. We had the guys over last night and look at what she did to them:
