14 – 5-weekers Halloween Party and new volunteers

November 8, 2011

Our first batch of 5 weekers is now gone, and newbies arrived over the weekend. I am going to miss a lot of them, especially my good friends and people I could talk to like Claire, Marlyse and Alasdair. We have 7 new volunteers now who have started their training: Max, Alex, Joe, Simon, Darshan, Antje and Britta.  Funny story is that I know Darshan! We worked together at the New England Aquarium back in Boston! How small is the world? We both were very surprised when we saw each other, but we were good friends so it’s great!

Anyways, our 5-weekers are gone, and we had a big party for them on Wednesday evening. It was our Halloween party, and the staff really put a lot of effort into it; it was much appreciated by everyone. I didn’t have any costume ideas until the last minute, but I ended up creating a veil out of a mosquito net and putting tons of sudocreme on my face and here I was a vampire’s bride.

The food was absolutely fabulous, which is really all that matters to us. We had cocktails, cheese, Mexican food, meat, salsa and even a piñata full of candies… Everything we need! Some of the current Divemaster interns were also there, and it was great to talk to some of them and hear what they have to say about the different dive centers. We kept going until late at night, or I should say early morning. We went down to the beach and Jess taught us how to use poys:

It was really sad to say goodbye to everyone but I guess it’s good for the dynamic of the camp. It’s very refreshing to have new people around. These next 5 weeks should be good!
